Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference? This is a fantastic chance to begin your career in housing and asset management through an apprenticeship role. As a Stock Condition Surveyor Apprentice, you’ll play a key part in helping us understand the condition of our homes so we can plan future investment and ensure our customers live in safe, well‑maintained properties. You’ll carry out home health checks (also known as stock condition surveys) and help keep our asset management database accurate and up to date.

Contractually based out of our Portsmouth office, this is a full‑time position working 37 hours per week on a 2-year fixed‑term contract.

Here’s the facts about the role:

You’ll be enrolled on a Surveying Technician (Level 3) apprenticeship course, allowing you to combine on‑the‑job learning with structured training. You’ll gain hands‑on experience working with our Stock Condition Team, learning how we assess the condition of our homes and how this information shapes our investment plans. Your apprenticeship learning will be delivered virtually, with 6 hours of learning per week, typically carried out over 1 day. One week this will be live virtual sessions with your tutor and apprenticeship peers, the next week it will be self-led learning you’ll complete yourself.
 

What would you be doing?

You’ll learn how to deliver a range of tasks, including:

  • Carrying out home health checks to assess the condition of our properties
  • Identifying hazards in line with HHSRS and Decent Homes standards
  • Reporting building defects and raising urgent repairs where needed
  • Validating and uploading survey data into our asset management database
  • Managing your diary to organise and attend customer appointments efficiently
  • Supporting the maintenance and accuracy of our asset data
  • Following Health & Safety procedures and promoting safe working practices.


What does the Stock Condition Team do?

Our Stock Condition Team plays a vital role in ensuring our homes remain safe, compliant, and well‑maintained. As part of this team, you’ll contribute to:

  • Collecting accurate data that informs our long‑term investment programmes
  • Identifying issues that need repair or improvement
  • Ensuring our homes meet regulatory standards, including HHSRS and Decent Homes
  • Supporting colleagues across Asset Management with reliable, up‑to‑date information
  • Helping us plan future works that improve the quality of our homes and the lives of our customers.


Who we’re looking for:

To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
  • Be eligible to work in the UK
  • Be confident using technology (phone, computers, hand held device)
  • Have good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Have strong communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills
  • Be proactive, solution‑focused, and willing to learn
  • Be self‑motivated and able to work on your own initiative
  • Hold a full driving licence with access to a car for business use (business mileage will be paid)
  • Be willing to work to tight deadlines and occasionally outside usual office hours.
