The Vacancy
We’re VIVID! – We’re the fifth largest developer of new homes amongst housing associations in England, having built over 1,500 last year.
Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable homes? Do you thrive on embedding best practices in technical project delivery?
We’re looking for a Technical Manager to join our development team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our housing portfolio. Contractually based out of our Portsmouth office, this is a full time permanent role, working 37 hours a week with a minimum of 20% of this to be office based to promote collaboration and team working. This typically equates to 1–2 days per week, which may include time spent in the office, on-site, or at consultant/contractor locations.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this is a new role within the Business and as such, is an opportunity for individuals to create and craft the role and to set out and define a pathway for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead design quality, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive innovation across multiple projects.
For the first six months, projects would primarily be in Portsmouth, Shoreham and the Basingstoke area.
Want to know what we can offer you?
Here’s the facts about the role:
In this pivotal role, you’ll lead internal design consultation and manage external design teams, ensuring that all design proposals align with our Employer’s Requirements and translate seamlessly into high-quality, buildable homes.
You’ll champion a culture of ‘conscious design’ focused on the lived experience of residents, while embedding structured design programmes aligned with RIBA stages and Building Safety Act Gateways. You’ll take ownership of building safety compliance, implementing robust processes to meet Golden Thread requirements and ensuring completed projects are safe and regulation compliant.
Your work will be informed by stakeholder engagement, lessons learned from past projects, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The Technical Manager will be qualified in a relevant discipline (Civil, Environmental, Engineering, Architecture or Project Management) OR possess significant demonstrable industry experience and be a member of RICS, CIOB, RIBA, CIAT, APM or equivalent.
You’ll have a strong understanding of architectural and technical requirements, building regulations, and renewable technologies. You’ll be skilled in troubleshooting, design interrogation, and stakeholder engagement and be familiar with RIBA stages, planning legislation, and tender evaluation.
As this role involves travel, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use is a requirement. Business mileage will be paid.
