You’ll lead the Building and Fire Safety team with overall responsibility for the safety of our residents, assets and neighbouring communities, including our High‑Risk Residential Buildings, while maintaining compliance across the wider portfolio in line with current and emerging legislation, regulation and best practice.
Contractually based out of our Portsmouth or Basingstoke office, this is a full-time permanent role, working 37 hours per week. You’ll be expected to attend the office 3 days a week to enable you to build strong working relationships with your teams. Want to know what we can offer you?
Here’s the facts about the role:
The Head of Fire and Building Safety will lead the fire risk assessment programme, oversee and drive remedial actions, and be responsible for delivering VIVID’s building remediation programme, securing funding and pursuing recovery through the Responsible Actors Scheme. You’ll also act as the accountable person for the Regulation 38 process on new developments, ensuring fire safety is embedded from design through to occupation.
You’ll own and maintain the full suite of Building & Fire Safety documentation, including the Fire Strategy, contracts, procedures and reports, ensuring they are up to date, robust and regularly reviewed. A key focus will be improving the quality of data and electronic systems used to capture, manage and report building and fire safety information, while continuously identifying new initiatives, learning from best practice and positioning the service as professional, high‑performing and sector‑leading. You’ll ensure the service strikes the right balance between safety, customer outcomes and value for money, drives continuous improvement, and stands up as an exemplar when benchmarked against comparable providers. Alongside this, you’ll ensure full compliance with all regulatory, legal, audit and best‑practice requirements and provide strong, effective contract management, setting and delivering clear performance and budgetary targets.
This role requires a senior leader who is qualified by experience and/or holds a recognised building or fire safety qualification (such as NVQ Level 6 Building Safety or a Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety), with a broad and up‑to‑date understanding of statutory and legislative fire and building safety requirements.
You’ll bring strong commercial awareness, financial acumen and knowledge of IT-based building and fire safety systems, alongside a sound grasp of Health & Safety procedures and best practice. Success in the role will be underpinned by vibrant, inspirational leadership skills, a demonstrable people-focused approach, and the ability to use data and insight to improve service delivery. The role also requires strategic leadership in building and fire safety, and a strong track record of negotiating, procuring, placing and managing contracts.
